I have a publishing company, called "Wooden Pencil" - and I might be interested in publishing Kat's new deck... Can you put me in touch with her? Since my background is in graphic design before going to law school, she and I might hit it off.

Thanks. You have my contact info.

Leisa,

Kat's conversation on the podcast about getting her work ripped off being a good thing is wonderful. However, artists SHOULD spend the $45 and register their work at the US Copyright Office (Library of Congress) at www.copyright.gov. No, they don't have to spend $45 for each card, they can register the whole deck in a single application - assuming all the pieces were created or published in the same year. If the piece is registered, attorney's fees are on the table if the work gets ripped off, and that makes it a lot easier to enforce rights if the need comes up.

FYI, if you think your readership would like it, I'd be happy to be a guest on the podcast to discuss copyright and publishing law for artists. It's what I do professionally and I'm actually giving a presentation to a group of children's book illustrators in a couple weeks that is almost the exact same content.

Just a thought - I'm sure you're always looking for content.

Have a great week.

Another wonderful podcast, and thank-you, Kat, for sharing your experience with the publishers in such a frank and forthright manner. This peek inside the artist's perspective is greatly appreciated.

Honestly Bonnie,

I'm not sure I'm willing to allow you to be so self-critical. I had to remove one sentence that you repeated in the whole thing.

As a contrast there are people who say "ummm" a few times per sentence.

Leisa:

What a stunning and unique journey Kat Black has been on (and continues to be on!). I look forward to the publication of her new "Cielo" deck, and continue to enjoy working with her "Golden Tarot".

Thank you for doing an amazing editing job on what was a terrible Pod Cast (my segment - not Kat's!), and for adding the images to the links for the cards.

Referring to Kat's comment - I believe that one of the reasons that Jeannette and Dan continue to do so well is because of the integrity inherent in their work.

As for the change in itroductory music - I look forward to visiting William Zeitler's site, and purchasing his albums. I really love this music!

Blessings,
Bonnie

Thanks so much for making me feel a bit more relaxed about the whole phone interview process, Leisa!

One thing I forgot to mention (as though I didn't blather on for long enough, but then this bit is important...) was that when Golden was pirated, Jeannette from Tarot Garden got in touch with me once she heard it was pirated, and offered to destroy all the copies they'd bought to resell! She even sent me a copy of the pirated version. I told them to go ahead and sell the copies. After all, Tarot Garden had no idea they were pirated when they bought them.

Anyways, this is so typical of Tarot Garden I thought it was very remiss of me not to mention it in the interview! Thanks Dan and Jeannette, you guys rock the tarot world.
